Ombuds Services for Staff uses a variety of techniques to assist employees in preventing and/or resolving any workplace conflicts in ways other than traditional adversarial approaches. We work with staff and their supervisors or coworkers. We emphasize collaboration and fair consideration of all sides of an issue. We provide processes that avoid lengthy adversarial conflicts that interfere with productivity. Our goal is to help improve communication and the work environment.
STAFF CONSULTATION
We assist employees in improving conflict resolution skills by discussing effective communication, problem solving techniques, and conflict prevention/resolution skills.
MEDIATION
We meet with the individuals in conflict and manage a process that is neutral, confidential, and allows the outcome to be determined by the parties themselves.
FACILITATION
We create a process that encourages ongoing communication and problem solving.
DEPARTMENTAL CONSULTATIONS
We provide assistance and/or training for a department. Trainings are designed to improve interactions, productivity, and reduce conflict.
TRAINING
We provide training in constructive conflict management skills and other related topics.
FORMAL POLICIES
We provide interpretations of policy after consultation with the appropriate office.
COLLABORATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING
We facilitate discussion with individuals involved in a conflict. The goal is to help the parties find ways to work together by acknowledging individual interests and thereby improve the working relationship.
