We adhere to the principles and standards of practice established by the International Ombudsman Association (IOA). Accordingly, we serve as a confidential, neutral, informal, and independent resource for staff concerns and conflicts.
Visitors' identities and the contents of their conversations remain confidential. Only with permission would we contact other university members to help resolve a dispute. The limits of confidentiality are disclosed at initial appointments.
We maintain no personal stake in the outcome of any dispute. We promote fair process and do not take sides or advocate for any particular individual, group, department, or organization.
The use of the Ombuds services is voluntary. Our focus is on alternative methods to resolving problems rather than by formal institutional procedures. We do not testify in formal hearings, we have no decision making authority, and we maintain no official records.
We exercise autonomy regarding our responsibilities.
